Reading and Literacy Added Authorization

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has granted approval to the Department of Literacy and Reading Education to offer courses to meet requirements for the Reading and Literacy Added Authorization (RLLA). The RLLA authorizes the holder to assess student reading and provide reading/literacy instruction in response to those interventions. RLLA holders are also authorized to develop, implement and adapt the literacy/reading content curriculum and assist classroom teachers in these areas.
Those wishing to earn the Reading and Literacy Added Authorization must make a formal application to the university. n addition, applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Graduate Studies and additional requirements posted on the department website.

Study Plan
The Reading and Literacy Added Authorization is delivered in two formats: 1) face-to-face and hybrid classes; 2) 100 percent online. The following courses are required for the RLLA:
