Introduction
The undergraduate computer science program at Cal State Fullerton offers students a comprehensive foundation that will permit them to adapt to new technologies and new ideas. The program spans a wide range, from its theoretical and algorithmic foundations to cutting-edge developments in bioinformatics, communications systems, computer security, databases, digital game design, intelligent systems, software engineering, and other exciting areas.
The program provides students with a comprehensive background to take on varied categories of work. They are offered the necessary theories, principles and practices to design and implement software that permits them to take on challenging programming jobs. They have the opportunity to become well-equipped to devise new ways to use computers. The theoretical foundations available in the program provide the background to help develop effective ways to solve computing problems. This background allows students to determine the best possible ways to store information in databases, send data over networks, and display complex images.
The Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, www.abet.org.
Degree Descriptions
Computer Science (CS) is a formal science spanning theoretical inquiry into the nature of computation, algorithms and information; the design and implementation of the software systems on which our civilization relies; and practical, interdisciplinary end-user applications. The Bachelor of Science in CS program starts with a rigorous primer in the hands-on craft of computer programming, and continues with the timeless principles of artificial intelligence, compilers, data structures, databases, human and ethical factors, and operating systems. The program’s selection of electives catalyze exploration of cutting-edge topics, such as cybersecurity, digital animation, machine learning, management of the software development process, mobile/web apps and video games. The program prepares students for enduring software development careers in large firms, startups, the public sector and for graduate study in computer science and related fields.
The Master of Science in Computer Science program prepares students to be thoughtful scholars, ready for global engagement with academia, industry and the world. The program provides students with a solid foundation in the scientific, engineering and other aspects of computing that prepares the graduate regardless of his/her background for a successful career that can advance the creation and application of computing technologies. CSUF graduates will gain essential knowledge and skills to adapt to a highly dynamic environment in either the industry or academia.
