Associated Students Inc. is a nonprofit, auxiliary corporation and the recognized student government at Cal State Fullerton. ASI provides student engagement and development opportunities through leadership, volunteer and employment experiences. ASI provides campus community members with important social, cultural and recreational opportunities, as well as a wide range of programs and services. Every part-time or full-time student is a member of ASI through fees paid each semester. These fees are administered by ASI through the student-elected board of directors and executive staff, and provide for student governance, shared governance of the university, programming of student activities, funding of campus organizations and athletics, and the operation of the Titan Student Union, Student Recreation Center, Children’s Center, and CSUF Irvine Center Fitness Center and Lounge.

Executive Officers

The ASI executive officers include the elected president and vice president, and a cabinet of four appointed officers. They represent students’ needs and interests to the CSUF administration, faculty, staff and campus community. They manage the day-to-day proceedings of student government and programs and initiate projects that benefit students. The executive officers report progress on strategic initiatives to the board of directors and advocate for students at all levels within the university and in external public forums.

Board of Directors

The ASI board of directors is composed of two voting representatives from each of the eight academic colleges on campus, as well as other officers and representatives. The board is charged with setting policy for Associated Students Inc., approving all funding allocations to programs and services, and advocating student interests on committees and boards. The board of directors meets every Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. in the ASI Board Room of the Titan Student Union. These meetings are open to the public and all students are encouraged to attend.

Titan Student Centers Board of Trustees

The Titan Student Centers (i.e., Titan Student Union, Student Recreation Center and satellite facilities) are governed by a student-majority board, which develops policies on issues ranging from operating hours to services offered. The purpose of the TSC board of trustees is to establish policies that will assure that the Titan Student Centers will be a unifying force between students, faculty and staff; a campus center for social, cultural, and intellectual activities and services; a place to provide further opportunities to broaden and strengthen interpersonal relationships and self-enhancement within a large urban university; and to provide experience in self-government and civic responsibility. The TSC board of trustees meets every other Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the ASI Board Room of the Titan Student Union. These meetings are open to the public and all students are encouraged to attend.

Involvement

Students don’t have to be elected to an ASI office to take part in student leadership. They can get involved in ASI by serving on committees, working on programs and helping to develop new programs and services. Participation on committees as a student representative or serving as a volunteer provides networking opportunities, rewarding experiences and campus involvement, as well as insight into how the university functions, plans and deals with issues. Information regarding appointed student positions and volunteer opportunities is available in the ASI Executive Offices located in Titan Student Union 207 or by calling 657-278-3295.

Employment Opportunities

The ASI Human Resources Office provides part-time employment opportunities for Cal State Fullerton students. As a student assistant or work-study employee, students can gain valuable job experience, develop personal skills and build their resumes. Employment opportunities are available in a variety of ASI programs, including the Children’s Center, Student Recreation Center, Marketing and Design, and the Titan Student Union. For information on ASI employment opportunities, visit asi.fullerton.edu, stop by the ASI Human Resources Office in TSU 227 (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or call 657-278-7068.

Children’s Center

ASI recognizes that many of the people who wish to attend the university are parents of young children, and that in order to attend classes these people must arrange for affordable, quality child care. Therefore, the CSUF Children’s Center has been established and operated, with Associated Student Inc. funds, for the purpose of making the educational opportunities at the university equally accessible to these parents of young children, regardless of sex, race or financial status. Trained preschool teachers and student interns provide a developmental program for children ages 4 months through pre-kindergarten, which offers experiences in art, science, language, physical development, math, reading and music, with an emphasis on the development of social and problem-solving skills. For more information about the Children’s Center, including enrollment and academic internships, call 657-278-4265.

Titan Recreation/Student Recreation Center

In March 2008, the Student Recreation Center, the home of Titan Recreation, opened on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. The SRC features a cardio floor, weight room, 35-foot high rock wall, indoor jogging track, outdoor swimming pool and 22,000 square feet of gymnasium space. In addition to the beautiful building features, Titan Recreation offers a variety of programs, including drop-in fitness and F45 classes, team and individual intramurals, Titan Outdoors excursions, informal recreation, a youth summer day-camp, and Learn to Swim. The SRC employees roughly 125 students per year and has about 4,000 visitors per day.

Cal Student Fullerton students who have paid the Titan Student Centers fee receive access to the SRC and all of the programs offered by Titan Recreation. Memberships are also available to the campus community as well as alumni.

Titan Student Union

The Titan Student Union opened in 1976 and first expanded in 1992. In response to higher enrollment and increased demand for services, the TSU expanded again beginning in summer 2015. The $20 million renovation and expansion, funded entirely by cash reserves, was completed in October 2016 and added 26,000 square feet of public space and meeting rooms.

The TSU is the center of campus life and serves as the primary gathering and meeting place for the university community. In addition to event space, the TSU provides study space, a computer lab, student art galleries, Titan Bowl and Billiards, a food court, ATM banking, and discount ticket sales. The TSU houses Associated Students Inc., the Dean of Students, and Student Life and Leadership. On a typical academic day, more than 7,000 students visit the TSU.

The many programs and services offered throughout the TSU include:

  • Arts Program - The TSU encourages artistic awareness by coordinating short-term student exhibits in the Center, Atrium and Plaza galleries. Through the Art Acquisition program, the TSU is home to a collection of over 100 pieces of student artwork displayed throughout the building.

  • ATMs - ATMs from Bank of America, SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, Chase Bank and Wells Fargo are available just outside the main entrance of the TSU.

  • Becker Amphitheater - Built by Associated Students Inc., Becker Amphitheater is located southeast of the TSU and hosts outdoor concerts and other live events.

  • Discount Tickets - The TSU Information and Services Desk offers discount tickets for theme parks, movies, local sports and ticketed CSUF events.

  • Food Services - The food court offers a variety of choices including Togo’s, Panda Express, The Fresh Kitchen, Baja Fresh, Juice It Up!, Hibachi San, Pieology and Starbucks. The Yum is the place to pick up quick snacks, drinks, supplies and more.

  • Group Study Rooms - Study rooms are available for groups of three or more students. Gather a group and bring a TitanCard to check out a room for up to four hours.

  • Information and Services - Information and Services has the answer to most questions about CSUF. Purchase tickets to area theme parks and attractions, as well as campus events; retrieve belongings from “lost and found”; and get general campus information and directions.

  • Lounges - The many lounge and study areas throughout the TSU offer a comfortable place to study or relax. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building.

  • Titan Bowl and Billiards - This eight-lane bowling center, video arcade, billiards area, console gaming room and big screen TV lounge are located on the lower level of the TSU and offer fun and entertainment between or after classes. Visit asi.fullerton.edu for information on tournaments and special events held throughout the year. Titan Bowl and Billiards also is a great place to host events; recognized CSUF student clubs and organizations are eligible to reserve one complimentary event per semester.

  • University Conference Center - This office provides meeting/event facilities and related services in the TSU for student groups, faculty/staff groups and the surrounding community. Contact the University Conference Center’s event planning staff to schedule TSU facilities for student organization meetings, workshops, banquets and other events. Available locations include the Becker Amphitheater, Titan Theater and Atrium, and the TSU Portola Pavilion.

Information and Services

Information and Services is the Titan Student Union’s answer center. Trained attendants help hundreds of customers each week in navigating the campus, finding classrooms and offices, learning details about upcoming sporting and special events, and other related inquiries. Information and Services is also equipped with resource materials for greater north Orange County, including telephone directories and internet access to provide quick referrals and to answer extensive customer inquiries.

Camp Titan

Camp Titan is a summer camp program operated by Associated Students Inc. The camp is a one-week residential program provided at no cost to children from disadvantaged and/or low-income backgrounds from Orange County and the surrounding area. Cal State Fullerton students volunteer their time to complete training and serve as the camp counselors. Camp Titan is also staffed and overseen by ASI professional staff. For more information or to get involved with Camp Titan, call 657-278-3036.

Programming Board

ASI’s Programming Board hosts many campus events and activities throughout the year that give students something fun to look forward to, a chance to relieve some of the stress that comes along with being in school, or just something to do while taking a break between classes. Events often include karaoke and open mic shows, film screenings and concerts, and pep rallies and tailgates. The group also puts on special events around midterms and finals and culminate with the biggest event of the year, Spring Concert. Students can also volunteer to help with events, which is a great chance to make new friends and get great leadership experience.

Association for InterCultural Awareness

The Association for InterCultural Awareness is the part of Programming that plans events to highlight, celebrate, and educate students about culture and diversity. Through performances, showcases, festivals and experiences that bring out a variety of culture-based student organizations and campus departments, AICA gives students and the campus community the chance to come together to learn, grow and appreciate one another. AICA also serves as a funding source for events hosted by culture-based student organizations on campus.

Street Team

Street Team is the volunteer program of Programming and supports events and activities while also giving students a place to get involved with ASI. Students interested in getting involved, helping plan and run events, learning about leadership opportunities and leadership skills, or just making new friends are encouraged to join. Street Team meetings happen each week.

Funding for Student and Club Activities

ASI provides funding to students and clubs through a variety of councils. Each council has a number of student-run programs and clubs under its supervision, and facilitates the allocation of ASI funding to these member organizations. This funding provides clubs with the opportunity to present speakers, attend conferences and produce campus events. For more information about Inter-Club Councils, call 657-278-7736.funding provides clubs with the opportunity to present speakers, attend conferences and produce campus events.
